Lynn's Blog, mostly about running, but you never know...

I am in desperate need of new running shoes.  So I went to Fleet Feet, which is where I usually go.  I found out that they are no longer carrying my favorite shoes the Adidas Supernova Control.  They decided not to carry Adidas for awhile due to their poor customer service and quality of shoe for the price.  So by their advice, and against my better judegment, I went with a Nike Zoom shoe.  I ran on my treadmill and could only make it 2 miles before my foot was burning and needed to change out to my old, but new, Saucony.  What a disappointment!  I guess I am going to go back and buck up for the other recommendation the Asics Gel Kayano for $134.  That will be the most I have ever spent on a running shoe but the gal at Fleet Feet swears I will get more mileage out of this shoe than any other.  I'll let you know how it goes.

When I went into my trainer a few weeks ago I was telling him that I was having trouble with my hamstrings being really tight even after stretching.

He had just gotten back from Arizona helping his father launch a new product he designed at the P.F.Chang Rock N Roll marathon.  The product is called the Muscletrac and you use it after workout or just any time you feel sore.  It looks like a rolling pin with gears on it.  You roll it on the affected area sabout 10x.  I am telling you after using it everyday for 2 weeks I have noticed a big difference.

What it does it is works out the tension and lactic acid build up in the sore areas to promote healing.

I was using one of those big hard foam rolls and that was so painful the way you had to use it I stopped.  This thing is so great, you are able to control the tension so if you are overly sore in one area you just work it a little easier.

www.muscletrac.com  It cost about $54 with shipping and tax and only took 4 days to get to me.

Fleet Feet and Big River Running Company both have great group running schedules for the week and weekends on their websites.  They vary in distance and they invite walkers to beginners and advanced runners.  These groups are a great way to meet other people that work at your skill level.

They also have race schedules for area races so if at any time you want to challenge yourself you know when and where a race may be.

So check them out!!!

Good job everyone!

This movie would have been perfect for all you new runners and those thinking about giving it a try.  What an inspiration some of these people are.  They documented a 65 year old man who runs pace groups and is on I think his 3 or 4 marathon to Deena Kaster, an Olympic medalist , who ended up wining the 2005 Chicago marathon which was the marathon the movie documented.

It was worth the $10 and the drive up to the MIlls!

As it happens, the half-marathon training has us running a 5k on Super Bowl Sunday. Since there are no scheduled races in the area, we’re going to improvise…

What: Super Bowl 5k
When:  Sunday Feb 3, 10 am
Where: Make-shift route in Chesterfield Valley on Edison Road, West of Long Road
Why: Because we crazy
Cost: $0, sorry no t-shirts (maybe next year)

Optional: Super Bowl party at the Campbell’s afterwards (please go home and shower first) – we’ve gotta replenish the 350 calories we burn with 3,000 from beer, chili, & wings!

Please invite your friends – runners or walkers – no hecklers, though.

Every other Wednesday, starting 1/30,  a group of us from work will be going to a track in the Des Peres area to do our speed runs.  If you work near this area please feel free to join us.  Most likely we will be at the Kirkwood Middle School, right off of Manchester just west of Geyer, at 11:30.  So suit up and join us.

This movie looks to be a must see!
